Before step one: You are using a Web browser, such as Internet Explorer, to view Help. For all procedures, switch back to Internet Mail and News by clicking one of its windows or choosing it on the Finder menu before you do step one. |
- On the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
- Under Mail & News, click News.
- In the NNTP Host box, type the name of your news server.
- If your news server requires a name and password, select This Server Requires Authentication, and then fill in the User Name and Password boxes.
- In the News Servers list, select the server you want to use.

- If you have not done so, set up a connection to your news server.
- On the Windows menu, choose Newsgroups.
- On the News menu, choose Download Complete Newsgroup List.
A status window appears, showing the number of newsgroups that have been downloaded. You can continue to perform other tasks while the newsgroup list is downloaded to your machine.

Searching for a newsgroup
Setting up a connection to your news server
- On the Windows menu, choose Newsgroups.
- On the News menu, choose Download Updates To List Only.
A status window appears, showing you the number of newsgroups being downloaded, or a message telling you that there have been no new newsgroups added to the server since your last update.
- To see the full newsgroup list again, choose Show Complete Newsgroup List from the News menu.

Loading the newsgroup list
- If the Newsgroups window is not open, choose Newsgroup from the Windows menu.
- In the Display Newsgroups Containing box, type the word(s) contained in the newsgroup you are looking for. As you type, only the newsgroups that match what you type will be visible.
- To show the entire list of messages again, delete the text you typed.

- If the Newsgroups window is not open, choose Newsgroup from the Windows menu.
- In the Newsgroups window, select the newsgroup you want to add to your favorites list.
- To add a newsgroup to your favorites list, choose Add Newsgroup To Favorites from the News menu.
- To remove a newsgroup from your favorites list, choose Remove Newsgroup From Favorites from the News menu.
